Hi guys, I've got CA Azur 840C player from a friend, but unit has some problems, so I called Houston for assistance 😀;
Actually this cd player was exposed probably to a short surge peak and simptoms of illnes are- after approximately half or one hour of playing cd transport starts to skip, sometimes with cracking sound, which doesn't make me happy I' ve to admit. Also one digital input is not working; software version inside unit is V.01/067/1.2. This 840 now works like D/A with my vintage pioneer transport, and with musiland usb dac properly recognising all imput sampling rates from 44 to 192. Ok, now questions.
First, anybody knows which laser & transport is inside, because I tried common version of sanyo transport which is mentioned in service manual, but unit sadly didn't recognize it. Second, anybody here has a newer version of firmware, especially dsp firmware, which my local Croatian supporter is not keen to sent to me free a charge. That 's probbably their vision of word "support". I' not intending to repair in official service because the price of repairing is probably equal to its value. (any redneck could repair cd player by sending it to a local service & support, but not here where diyers and tweakers live and die hard).
Generally speaking, I m not happy with with a job of Cambridge engineers, becouse power supply sections, like all Cambridge new audio products are boiling, and they are full of ordinary passive components . Yes man, it has Anagram stuff inside, but witihout a good supply for clock units jitter is eating a nice part of Anagram and AD effort to things sound better. Ok, that s it, I' waiting...🙄
