aXp 60w BJT Class A

While I probably won't start building soon. I might as well start documenting my progress. To be continued.

Rail voltages for this design are +/- 40V. 30-32V AC secondaries should be fine, however, you need a bigger toroid than 500VA unless you are using 500VA/monoblock. For stereo I recommend 800-1000VA. I also would recommend active rectification. If your rectified voltages are a little lower than 40VDC, you can always dial up the current a little. Andrew has designed it for 2.2A, but also has provisions for a bias switch to alternate from 2.2A to 1.1A to 400-500mA.

You can see that total power dissipation into 8 ohms is 360W for Class A, so your 500VA transformer might be challenged in that instance. That being said, if you want to just stick with Class AAB and Class AB, you might be just fine.

Best,
Anand.
