Horns are made to order at my specs ( Spherical design) from composite material and finished with automotive professional paint.
12LX60 is indeed V2 and are in closed cabinet like original design with front loaded flare. The mid have additional binding posts at the back of the horn. The passive crossover are inside the big tube, behind the aluminium plate and wired with silver wire.
I use 2 different damping materials for mid range....natural treated wool and angel hair.
On the back of the cabinet there is a 4 channel class D amp (4 x 1000 W/4 ohms).... ( I use only one) with a very good DSP and additional corrections. The platform look like this....
When I have time I will wired all active and do some job at DSP for other room dimmensions and placement.....
A lot of effort was into those.....

I remain absolutely amazed!Horns are made to order at my specs ( Spherical design) from composite material and finished with automotive professional paint.

Is it necessary? The midrange driver is crossover-Less, in Avantgarde loudspeakersThe passive crossover are inside the big tube, behind the aluminium plate and wired with silver wire.
They use an CPC.... so called "capacitor polarisation circuit".
Davis recomand for 16tk6 V2 a notch circuit for that little bump at 4,5kHz and that was also my intention.
At the and the measurements and room interaction will be crucial.
Also there is the possibility to go all active.....
Right now is connected directly to the amp without filter.

Felixx, Your Avantgarde Duo looks excellent - can't say this is DIY.
I am thinking of building one, can you help with following questions -
can you tell where did you get your horns built?
The tube, housing the drivers and connects the horn, is that made of wood? PVC?
Thank you,

The horns construction are from composite material but custom made specification (throat diameter, flange, etc) at a molding shop and high quality automotive paint process.....
The housing tubes used are cement/PVC type pipe (hard to find) with 2 types of absorbing material inside..... natural treated wool and Angel Hair.
There is also an aluminium flange attached to the driver (same as originals) made on CNC for so called CDC (controled dispersion characteristics).
Avantgarde ideea was to align the frequency response, the sensitivity of the driver, the geometry of the membrane and the air chamber at the horn throat to response curve of the spherical midrange horn.
This way they manage to avoid any passive filter components in the signal path routing the music signal directly to the voice coil of the driver engine. Lessc components, less interactions, less friction ensuring more detail.
I don't know if is bull**it but I tried...
Anyway....it's a lot of time spend and very costly project.

Felixx, Thanks a lot for the details - great work with meticulous details. Definitely not an easy DIY for me 🙂
Even if we can get the drivers, and horns rest of it are not easy to acquire/build (housing tube, flange and cabinets).
Thanks again for sharing those stunning pictures, pretty cool 😎
