What's the DC voltage across the 1N4751 diode (one probe on each end of the diode) that you showed earlier?
With the black probe on the RCA shields and the red probe alternately on each end of the diode, what's the DC voltage on the striped end?
On the other end?
On the other end?
I think you should try a different Zener. Use the original part number instead of an NTE part. This diode is either breaking down at the wrong voltage or something in the amp is preventing the votlage from going negative. Since I don't trust NTE parts, I'd suggest replacing the diode first.
Yes.
If you want to try it with something that you can buy from a local supplier, Radio Shack has 12v and 5.1v zeners. Two 12v and one 5.1, all 3 in series will get you close enough to the 30v that you need to allow further testing.

alright ran 2(12 volt zeners) plus a (5.1v) zener in series for a total voltage of (29.1v).
so far tested whether or not it goes into protect WITHOUT rcas hooked up or any speakers. goes into protect @ about 7/8 gain. before that, no protect.
guess i will proceed to testing a speaker plus audio input.

Did audio test, still goes into protect after turning up to about 3/4 to 7/8 gain. right channel has most static/distortion, left channel sounds decent, best sound comes out of a bridged configuration.
Speakers still "pulses" here and there.

actually it doesn't work "right" @ any gain level. if i turn the knob up it really doesn't do anything but make a static noise. but there is music coming through, bu very staticy.
i started the amp up @ half gain with radio turned up, and it was quite loud, once i turned the gain down it wouldn't turn back up.

Re-check the shield ground on the amp with no RCAs plugged in. Push back gently on the RCAs when checking the ground. Black probe on the RCA shield, red probe on one of the non-bridging speaker terminals.
