My father's ancient Cambridge Audio integrated has died, so I thought I'd give him a spare amp from my hoard. He needs input switching and a phono input, so it will have to be an old 8000C I bought from eBay years ago, without a manual.
The phono inputs aren't quite what I expect - there are sockets for 'Load' under Phono MM and well as 'In'.
What does 'Load' do?

The LOAD sockets do not appear on this version of the Audiolab 8000C:
They likely accepted external loading plugs that altered the MM cartridge response by hooking a ceramic capacitor and resistor across the MM input.
For normal purposes, you may simply ignore them.

Adding to this thread.... Per the manual: The MM LOAD sockets are connected in parallel with the PHONO MM input and allow the electrical load impedance to be optimised for different cartridges. The standard input load of the 8000C works well with most cartridges, but some cartridges benefit if the input load is "fine tuned".
The manual states input sensitivity and impedance for PHONO MM as 2.0 mV/47k/85pF
Hope this helps.
