Hello Ray, thanks for the reply, yes it has the ym3623b, df1700p and pcm63p chipset, well i'm a begineer at this althuogh the pcb layout is straight forward and i can use a soldering iron, so swapping bits is no probelm. i just don't really know where to start or how good the dac can get, so maybe some minor tweaks for now, it seems this is a dacdig rev 2 from 1993 with sovtec 6922 valves and jensen paper caps,
thanks once again,
dave

I have one of things in pieces at the moment and I am not too sure what to do with it. I tried the no oversampling route but I was not too impressed though with hindsight there is one thing I would now do differently. On the analogue side I always felt the relatively high output impedance and limited output current was holding the dac back but the limited space has stopped me doing anything about it. Sorry to be of little help but I have only seen references to mods for the newer non os audionote dacs. The only other reference to the oversampling audionotes I have seen is here;

You might try posting in the digital section of the audioasylum www.audioasylum.com where Mr Audionote, Peter Qvortrup is to be found.

Thanks for the replies all, peter Q. did reply to an email request for a schematic, but all that was suggested was changing the output caps to copper foil, there does seem to lots on the newer AN dac but very little info out there on the older versions, BTW G.Tent how do i get hold of one of your clocks?
cheers dave

Hi

Somewehere on the web a DAC4 circuit hangs around (search using Google serch for pictures and type DAC4)

Copper foils are serious alternative to my favourite TX coupling (no cap)

Clocks: You may order directly by mail

I have several very hapy customers using XO DAC. To be honest the CD player upgrade has higher value for money than the DAC clock upgrade, but one you have irt you don't want without it.

enjoy

Hi

Older DAC3 use a completely different architecture (Yamaha input receiver, Nippon filter and the good old PCM63K converters) , so then the suggested mods are not applicable (though the spirit of the suggested mods is OK).

I am still not happy with asynchronouos reclockking:

- data errors are made
- a very high clock frequency is needed, leadding to RF and noise problems

anyhow it avoids a PLL circuit which makes it easilly applicable

A propos CS8412 / 8414: The input circuitry of DAC1.1 is not symmetrical, though the transformer coupling suggests it is.....

best regards
