Bills focus is driverless interface, simply because good drivers that are maintained as the OS's get tweaked are not common. I don't know if Motu or Focusrite work with Window's native USB UAC2 driver.
And it's hard enough keeping up with OS changes to how they handle sound without also dealing with a hardware manufacturer's reluctance to support their discontinued products (which I can understand -- developing drivers isn't cheap and hard to justify to the stockholders if it isn't going to help profits. And if no profits, companies tend to fold and then support vanishes).
Working with only OS built-in drivers isn't a foolproof strategy for software or attached-hardware design, but OS developers have a lot more motivation to keep things compatible as years go by. It's a lot better in the long run if the built-in drivers do all you need.
