Audio colume controls / atternuators

Hi diyaudio people

Have anybody of you tried one of these TKD CP-2511 type or TKD CP601 digital pot ?

I have bought chinese digital pot very low priced with 23 steps, and some did work as expected, and dismantling one bad working, I have found it was very expensive for what I have got : these pot cannot stay at long good working in an amplifier as it is impossible with so low a build quality.

So here I am : not to expensive digital pot are, at first TKF CP601 and next, TKD CP-2511. Did you try one of these in your amplifiers ? What do you thing of these pots ?

Thank you for your opinion.

Best regards

Hi Andrew, As a tube designer (with 20+ years of experience) explained to me, he said that potentiometer desirably should have 500K resistance. This in turn will effect sound quality in his active valve pre-Amp design. The lower resistance the more stress placed on tubes. Of course the output from valves can be adjusted but it is desirable in his High-End design.

That depends. In some preamps, such as the Vacuum State RTP and SVP, the resistance of the volume control is part of the design. In the VSE circuits the 50K volume control is an essential part of the loading for the RIAA stage.
