Audio Alchemy DAC-In-The-Box; Power Supply?

Hi all,

I haven't found an answer yet after searching around for one, so here goes:

I was gifted one of these little DACs, but without the poser supply. I've been reading that the stock unit shipped with a +/-18V, 400mA supply, but that they sound great with +/-12V, 2A supplies. That's all good and well, but I'm not sure now about what rail goes to which ring on the three-ring plug (standard 1/8" jack, used for power input).

Has anyone got one of these supplies who could just do a quick pinout for me?

I was going to go shopping for parts today (still will be, no doubt), but then I realized that the unit states nothing of its power requirements on the back! 🙄

Thanks for any and all help with this issue!

Hi thefragger:

I had a bunch of Audio Alchemy DAC's over the years....

The tip is +12VDC, the middle is -12VDC and the Ground is the cable end.

The standard power supply (no load) would measure +/-15VDC or so while the upgraded PS would measure +/-16VDC (no load). I believed hooked up to DAC, they measured +/-13VDC and +/-14VDC respectively.

I hope this helps...

Wonderful! Thanks for clarifying the pinout, Dan!
