Thanks for the info.
BTW is the sensitivity really that high 92db ?????
Yes the 130Z0 is 92dB sensitive.
Can anyone tell me the difference between the HM130Z0 and the HM130Z2?
EDIT:
Found this excellent archive:
http://www.audax.fr/audaxdoc.htm
Seems the Z12 is a bass/mid and the Z0 a pure mid.

Also does anyone have suggestion for good partners to the HM100Z0 mid? I have 4 of these drivers and have been itching to do something with them since early last year but you don't tend to see these used too often so opinion is scarce.
They do sound really quite wonderful, super smooth but dynamic and lively sounding all at the same time.
So far I see the Seas poly woofers as a good match with maybe Morel tweeters(Al recommends these highly). I suppose the ideal match with be the rare Audax prestige woofers but I never seem to be able to land a pair.
Anyone have a pair for sale?

Troels is apparently designing a high eff. midbass driver with seas that should be available latter this year through Jantzen.. I think that might be the "ticket". (..perhaps coated with some c37.)
http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/pipeline.htm
In fact it might be good for a LOT of designs.. 😉
If it has to be a dome tweeter I rather like the look of the peerless HDS - with perhaps alteration to its rear chamber (to remove the stuffing and instead vent it).
I think a more ideal match would be the BG Neo 3, when considering price and performance.
Going much beyond the price of those drivers.. well then I'd be heading back to RAAL.😀

Unfortunately, after I spent a LOT of time finding good matches, they all got discontinued. FWIW and for historical purposes, Dynaudio 17W75EXT on the bottom and Audax/JBL DT101 on top melded in very, very smoothly.
These are superb midranges.
I use the 100Z0 with the 210Z12
At a guess, a well damped, efficient driver would be a good partner.
The dynamic, lively sound, but also smooth and detailed is the one I wanted to preserve. The Seas W15CY was smooth and detailed, but somewhat lacked the other two, I didn't want to risk losing this, so waited till a pair of the 8" turned up on ebay and went for them. Ironically the sound in my 'head' that I've been aiming to create, is exactly how the Aerogels sound and I stumbled upon it almost by accident. The AP100Z0s, that I'd used before don't even get close to what the prestige units can do.
Tweeter - I just use the old scan d2905/97 I've used for years, in the ever changing system. I like the way the driver sounds, but crossed over at 5000hz isn't what this tweeter is 'about' so to speak, and I have wondered if something else would be better. A ribbon perhaps, but id prefer something more robust, this is active, and although there is a 30uF cap there for protection, against turn on thumps, I have a habit of accidentally abusing things 😀 I want a 19mm version of scans ring radiator.
The goal as stated earlier in this post is for a four way, with XLS's covering 100hz and down. Currently the xover board is only capable of three way, so I've got the 210/100/97 open baffled with serious EQ in the bass. Max SPL is limited, but the sound is wonderfully free and cohesive, exactly how I want it to be.
The driver Scott says is being developed with seas sounds interesting. What other tweeters would you suggest Scott? As this is the last area I am thinking of possibly changing.

Hemp FR8C and baby RAAL for you. Tone neighbors to the fine French girls you keep in your vault.
5th Element,
What are your xover points? An old poop sheet from Audax shows the Fs of the HM100ZO to be 250 hz! If correct your highpass on the mid should be around 800-1000 hz depending on slope. Tell us more about your xover points.
I know my HM130ZO sounds superb and I can just imagine that the HM100ZO does the same in the upper midrange.

I might have to put my HD3P/HM100/PR240 system back together for the UK meet, I put the drivers in storage when the boxes got damaged in the move down to Chatham...

Basically think of the driver - low mass, but significant dampening. In the tweeter world that suggests planars. They have low mass (for a given sd) and have quite a bit of dampening. Look to HiVi and BG for such a driver. If you need the extra eff., are willing to spend some cash, and can handle vertically directive drivers then I think this driver would work well:
http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=297-406
..otherwise the BG neo 3 is a "no brainer".
There are of course more expensive drivers - but at that point I'd be looking at the smaller RAAL tweeter.
(note: I have the pro version of the audax mid. So I am actually familiar with its "tonality" or "character" - for lack of a better word.)
BTW, as good as the driver is - that gold piezo tweeter from audax that it is often paired with it is a whole lot better and probably should not be paired with the audax mid (..and this is assuming the tweeter hasn't deflated).

Hi again Salas,
I'm really wanting to use the project with Morel MDT44 tweeters I also already have. The little RAAL would be superb but they're £120+shipping+tax's each which puts a pair of them at around the same price as the four mids and two woofers all together.
When I bought the HM100Z0's I always had the intention of using them in a high value and superb performance ratio system. So far the loudspeakers I've built recently are over endulgant fancies. It doesn't have to be that way for superb sound.
I figured an WMTM with the super small form factor HM100Z0 and MDT44 tweeter would allow for a very compact cabinet. Then in the age old tradition, this would sit on the woofer enclosure.

Best tweeter in the world, ever!
Mine hadn't the last time I checked them. 😉

Off topic but I think you'll find this as interesting as I did:
I was talking to Alex on the phone a few weeks ago and I managed to get him to talk about where he learnt all about ribbons and the things that drove him to create what he builds and sells right now under the RAAL banner.
I can't remember the chaps name but a fellow Serbian, a proffessor I think, schooled Alex, actually it sounded more like Alex bugged him until he gave in 🙂 He's working in the states now for MAD (big ribbon array manufacturers) overseeing a government contract for audio survellance kit. But before this he designed a planar tweeter for a Canadian speaker manufacturer. This tweeter that Alex' mentor designed was copied by BG(actually BG was part formed by an ex-employee of said Canadian company and obviously worked on the planar at some point). The BG 'copy' is actually inferior to the original design spec according to Alex and his mentor.

Pfff!
RAAL for the win 😀

I thought you were bringing them. Didn't realise they'd got damaged, sorry to hear about that Al.
I think it would be rude not for them to show though. 🙂 Is the damage bad as in it impairs performance?
One of the bass cabs got dropped, and the rear totally stoved in, (which took some doing I tell you!), but all the drivers are fine.
I was going to build a TL with the Kef 139s, HM100s, and some interesting little horn loaded Calrad tweeters I got from Bill F ages ago, but it would certainly be easier and quicker to put the Audax system back together, especially as I'm having real problems getting my measurement PC working properly.

Thanks for the headsup.
Sounds like you've already got a nice setup going. If your wanting to change the tweeter then my vote goes out to the little RAAL 70-10d which would be perfect over 5Khz. I was used to a Scanspeak ring radiator before I bought the large RAAL and its in a different class altogether - the RAAL that is.
A pair run to about £300 inc shipping but I think you'll be very impressed if you went that route.
SY:
A real shame because the drivers you mention are extremely tough to get hold of in the states let alone here in little old blighty. But I've got a couple of ebay auction notification on keywords like Audax and others, so hopefully something pops up sooner or later. I always keep my eyes on the classifieds on here too.
Scott:
Troels/Seas mid/bass looks interesting! Thanks for that.
I've emailed Troels for more info.

Well I was looking forward to hearing them until I heard this, well I still am if you can hopefully fix the damage. Its a real shame and I can relate to the whole 'accidental damage' thing after doing it myself.
Here's hoping they can make it 🙂
However the TL with KEF 139's would be a real treat having not heard this almost legendary driver. Its supposed to work pretty well in a TL too. 😉
I don't know, maybe you could bring both? 😀

Umm, No. 😀

I think that same unknown partner is responsible for most of HiVi and BG's planars designs.
