Attached other pic more clear, all grounds input&output same channel same point. With DVM full anti-clock wise 0 ohms, full clock-wise 100 Kilo ohms. If it's more easy for you, you can connect at the extremes of attenuator.

I used the same pic you posted to be more clear, waiting it help you. Input & output ground connected together at the same point. N.B. you need two attenuators due to the fact are mono.

Hi,
I have a similar situation - I bought a ladder attenuator on ebay 10 years ago and am now trying to use it. I have attached a photo.
It has only 4 wires, but I think I have figured out that ground is at the wire connecting the resisotors at either end.
I have a couple of questions:
1. What am I looking for with my multimeter to make sure I have the correct connections for in and out?
2. In his picture above Merlin el mags shows a separate ground for the input and the output. Is that necessary, or can I ground both input and output (for each channel) at the same spot?
Thanks in advance.
Pete

Never mind, I figured it out - turns out I know more than I think I do, whnn I take the time to put it all together. Unfortunately, when I installed it I found it had been damaged (I had stored it carelessly and it got banged around), and rather than try to find and replace the bad resistors, I decided the $10 I paid for it 10 years ago was okay.
