ATI chassis

I received the chassis today. There is some slight cosmetic damage on nearly all of them, with one have very significant cosmetic damage. Needless to say, the packaging was horrible. I will obviously be taking this up with ATI, as it is completely unacceptable in a product of this nature, and price. Most of the damage is disappointing, but not enough to **** you off - in my opinion of course, since they are not perfect. Only the one chassis is really bad.

The total shipping cost was actually a little more than what we paid, so ATI wasn't trying to make any money off of that. However, I was also hit with CAD$117 in taxes and duty 😱 14% worth of taxes, 6.5% worth of duty and an $8 handling fee. That puts the total incidental cost in excess of CAD$170 and makes this one crappy experience of a group-buy.

On a good note, the enclosures are of very nice quality and my 115lb girlfriend can stand on them! I didn't want to try standing on them myself 😀 The machining is nice and I'm fairly impressed with them in an overall sense.

Also, I paid for one set of solid aluminum feet for my amp and they sent me two sets, so someone can have one set. The rest of the chassis came with plastic/rubber feet.

I will let you guys know what ATI says about the damage, let me know if anyone has any suggestions on what to do about the situation.

Damage

Hi Cheeba,

Three thoughts:

1. Do you have any pictures of the kinds of damage you are talking about. If it is really insignificant I might not mind.

2. You should not have to absorb the extra cost. I am happy to make a contribution to help out.

3. We should wait to see what ATI says before any decisions are made.

Agreed on all counts, and, if I were allowed to post booby-pics on this site, I probably would 😀 I actually decided to try standing on it I did for just a second - I weigh about 165lbs - I can't believe the 2mm walls can support me. The corners are arched and the front and back plates are supporting the top, but still damn impressive. Let me go try and stand on my Pioneer amp 😀

I just happen to be an aspiring photographer, so pictures won't be a problem, I'll throw some up here tomorrow for you guys to check out.

Okay, here's these first two shots are of the one chassis that has the significant damage:

Yes, there were not packaged properly. Once I opened the first one and saw damage, I took notice as to how the remaining chassis were packed in relation to each other; I could see that a lot of the damage lines up with the edges/feet of the other chassis.

I have sent pictures to, and spoken with, ATI. These chassis are made up of several individual pieces and they are offering to replace the damaged pieces for free, however, they are out of stock of the faceplates. They didn't tell me how long it would be until the faceplates become available, only that they are being shipped to ATI from overseas.

Let me know what you guys want to do.

ATI Damage

Hi Cheeba,

Do all of them have damage to the faceplates? And is the faceplate damage restricted to the edges like your photo?

I am happy to wait for replacement pieces on the bodies, and would probably be happy with the existing faceplates if the damage were only on one edge that could be turned to the bottom.

First off, I'll assume the one chassis is a write-off since it has significant damage on all sides of the body and damage to all edges of the faceplate. For some reason, this one took a beating.

- All of the other chassis but one have damage to the faceplates.

- All of the faceplate damage is limited to the edges, although, some have damage on the top edge where it is noticeable.

- The bodies of five of them are okay (one of those five has a small scratch on the top of the body toward the rear). While the bodies are not perfect, they have very minor damage and I would not expect someone to send out free replacements, but maybe a decent discount on a future order would be fair. Of course, if anyone is pickier than me, that is their right and they can expect the finish to be perfect.

- The sixth body has more scratches, but it is all limited to the side of the chassis right at the rear of th unit - in such a place that it would probably not ever be visible to anyone.

Just so you guys know, I did not cherry-pick the chassis - the first one with aluminum feet that I unpackaged, I set aside for myself. This particular chassis is no better off than the rest (other than the one dilapidated one) - the body is acceptable with the faceplate still having some damage.

I haven't even opened them up yet, I figured I should resolve this issue before fooling around with them. However, I don't think it will do any harm to open up the wrecked one; I'll post pictures in a bit.

Maybe phone the company and tell them they did a horrible job of packing them and should replace them ?
