If I said that it's not stiff enough, it applies even more to a bigger one, wouldn't it?
The wall-thickness of the ATI chassis varies from case to case, so that may, or may not, be true.

Thanks for the input, Peter, I hope they meet my exacting standards 🙂

Okay, I got the bank-wire done, it will take 3-5 business days to arrive. I'll update you guys when ATI has confirmed the payment.

That is what I hate about ordering outside of Canada. Hopefully you don't get hit with duties and GST when the package arrives.

Two electrophoresis power supplies (Ebay) recently arrived at my work address. The first went UPS: $45 in 'brokerage' and 'handling' in my best Maifioso voice. The second went US Postal Service, no charge. The same pattern repeats itself with past purchases. UPS always dings you with obscene border charges.

I never ship any thing ups it is a good company if you are staying in us/canada, but if you order soemthing from the us and you live in canada you get raped 🙁 so not fair.

second go round

i would be happy to organise a second round of group buy from ATI.
(not wanting to steal cheeba's thunder, but it may be easier to
ship directly into the U.S.) i'd propose similiar rules to cheeba;
the cost to participate is whatever the direct expenses are
(no charge for effort), except that i'd round up by a few dollars
to cover unexpected charges, and donate anything unspent
to this forum (after all, without them, a group buy would
be harder to organise). the prices arthon gave me this week
are

=========price====ship(1)======ship(5)
ATI-661U====$56====$35/$82=====$64/$207
ATI-645T====$65====$39/$91=====$76/$231

(the shipping prices are surface and express.)

arthon also claims he can stand on the 645 (and he weighs 55kg)
so they should be stiff enough.

he has hinted that they are out of stock for 4-5 weeks
(maybe cheeba's buy exhausted them!). i will be out of
touch for a week or so, so maybe the right course of action
is for people to declare their interest for a week or so; see
what lessons can be learned from cheeba's buy; and
depending on what people want, we can firm up the details
of what we want and verify teh costs and deivery from ATI's end.

i am interested in one 645.

They shipped out last Friday afternoon according to the tracking info. If Arthon's quoted shipping times are accurate, they should be here early next week. I just got my LM3875 and soldered it up today...now the waiting 😀

No problem, Andrew, if it's better for everyone to get it sent to the US then might as well do that. We do have 3 people from Canada that are in for another - myself included. I want a 661U next...I'm already buying stuff for my next amp and I don't even have all the parts for the first one yet 😀

I ended up being out about $60CAD over budget on this group-buy, so watch for that if you do organize another buy. It will be a lot worse if I get nailed for duty as well.

Unless there's some bracing inside, I think the only conceivable way you could stand on one of these is with the back on the ground and stand on the face. The specs say the body is 2mm thick.

UPS sucks :smash:
