Reminds me of a Beatles song - " The Long and Winding Thread" 😀
That leads to a (low pafs hopefully) input stage door 😀
I figure that the folks at A-T aren't all that dense, and that the intrinsic capacitance of the cartridge is already factored into the termination requirements.
I wouldn't bet on that. I have a Shure V15V MR and Shure recommended 250 pF terminating capacity. According to my calculations that would result in an electrical Q of about 1.3 and a resonant peak around 17kHz. The Q for a Bessel response is about 0.6 and the required terminating cap is about 55 pF. That was when I bought the Leach JFET preamp, mounted it in the turntable base and connected it to the tonearm with about 2-3 inches of cable. I couldn't figure any way to get lower capacity.
Got my cartridge, mounted on what looks like a fairly decent headshell w/nice wires. They even threw in a stylus cleaning brush & alignment protractor.
I'm tempted to just throw it on my TT, as I'm currently running a cascoded LSK170 input stage preamp, but first I want to remove the current headshell and knock the TT RCA outs across my capacitance meter to find out the total loading from my cables and arm wiring.

...and the replacement isn't as good and twice the price.
That describes my feelings about the 150MLx replacing the discontinued 15, which is still my favorite moving magnet. Keep two NOS stylii in my humidor, just to make sure I never run out.
Hi,
on their japanese website AT shows an almost full new line of MMs.
The AT95E, 120Eb, 440mlb and 150SA remain listed.
New is the VM series that all seem to build on the same Paratoroidal generator, differing by the grade of screening.
The series splits in three subseries, the 500s, 600s and 700s. see the overview and here
The 500s beeing the affordable ones with plastic casings, the 600s beeing Monos and the 700s featuring metal casings.
Besides small changes in the design and color of the plastic bodies of the styli nothing seems to have changed.
If it weren't for the remaining ATs one could think that they only cleaned up their slightly confused line up.
The VM530EB seems to be a AT120EB in yellow the VM540ML a AT440mlb in red, the VM740and the VM750SH features a Shibata needle appearing like the AT150SA.
There's just no replacement for the AT95E, the cheapest of the line and the only one with the smaller Body (the 'slot' above the cantilever looks much shorter).
Apart from that they'd probabely better omitted with the ATs alltogether.
Now besides the obvious bugs in their technical data the line up still appears confusing as there are now doublettes differing only by the color of the stylus assemblies.

I assume you mean the SS with the Tapered Be cantilever? the Sa model looks identical to the 'new' 150. If so I can see why you like it. 🙂
I finally got around to measuring the cable/arm capacitance of my Denon DP-1100 turntable, and it looks to be about 95 pF, which does not leave a bunch of margin dealing with finnicky beasts like the better AT MM cartridges. Properly configured tube preamps will have an edge over semiconductor preamps, esp as the capacitance encountered is linear as in the proximity of simple pieces of metal in a vacuum rather than semiconductor junctions. If you're loading an MM cartridge, it makes sense that the preponderance of loading capacitance should be as linear as possible.
BTW, some people are having a sale on the new Shibata version of the AT150.

I just finished installing my new 150Mlx bought from LP gear and put down the stylus guard to check the tracking force and noticed that the diamond had fallen off. I can't think of any time where I knocked it or was rough with it. I'm pretty shattered as I waited for quite a while to get this and finally use it. Any one else had this happen?
Is it any use following up with LP gear?
1) What would a good replacement diamond? Garrott bros is the nearest to me. Shipping overseas may make it uneconomical. Across Aus. isnt too bad.
2) Would buying a new stylus for USD 275 be a better option?
3) Apart from the 150SA which other stylus would fit an 150 body?
Regards,
Kffern

Just had a look at Garrotts charges and for the elliptical it would come to $75+$160=AUD 235. Not a lot less than a new AT stylus.

kffern I would contact LPGear immediately, and just tell them that the diamond is missing and that the cartridge was not subjected to any rough or inappropriate handling. It's not beyond the realm of possibility that it actually came to you that way.
They have a good reputation and will hopefully make things right for you.
Good luck!
