Dear fellow audio nerds,
I have a question regarding a modification of the baxandall tone control.
We all know the ususal circuits of symmetric cut/boost with +/- 12 or 15 dB.
In DJ mixers you sometimes find -22 dB cut and +6 dB boost.
I am looking for a circuit with such asymmetric cut/boost values, preferably a 3-band design.
I already tried to simulate different circuit variations, but with no luck yet.
Are logarithmic pots used instead of linears? Any clues are helpful.
Thank you and best wishes,
Dennis

Thank you for your reply. I already read the chapter in Self's book and I did try to change the values of the end-stop resistors. As I see it, the circuit only makes sense if these resistors are symmetrical. If they are not, I cannot find a set of values which sets the balance right again. In a 3-band circuit everything gets even worse because the bands influence each other. That seems to be a problem in general which is why I think this circuit is not really useful for DJ applications.
Try making associated capacitors assymetrical and see what happens.
In any case, not sure why you can´t just use the regular Baxandall type.
You can easily boost "just" 6dB if you wish, simply don´t reach end of pot rotation , and not sure where the advantge lies in cutting -22dB instead of typical -15dB
Which would be the purpose of attenuating Bass or Treble even further?
Also: Baxandall slope is still 6dB/octave (best case), so -22dB would be achieved only at Audio Band extremes, say 20Hz or 20kHz ... not too audible, not too much Music program there anyway.
Maybe you are just trying to meet some brochure/marketing spec which I am not sure is actually there.
If you want extra boot/cut and/or fine tuning, add a graphic equalizer or a Parametric type for the widest set of options.
