Could someone please explain the technical differencies or provide good links?
Please refrain from comments such as "this sounds better than that on my system" which i can find anywhere on the net.
Thanks,

Ok did no look hard enough!
Windows: should you use DirectSound(default), WASAPI or ASIO - Xylio
Last couple of years I use only Linux based Daphile, so maybe I'm wrong..
Native DSD on Windows works with WASAPI, ASIO only have DoP option..
What about Kernel Streaming?!

All these protocols are capable of bit perfect playback, but I have the least problems with ASIO. By problems I mean occasional glitches, other Windows sounds, making sure the bitrate and depth don't change, etc. You can do that with all the protocols, but ASIO just sort of does it without thinking about.
Also, I have an old M-Audio USB card that has no drivers later than Vista. Under W10 it kinda-sorta works with those old drivers, but the ASIO drivers are super solid when I can use them.
