Very small! But, the trend is interesting especially since the mainstream tech companies view vinyl as an archaic and dead technology.
Which companies are cutting these new LPs or is it just the fact that old remaining ones are trading hands ??
I think what is most damaging the CD is the recording studios persistence on compression, modern CDs are sounding worse by every re-release they make. Just last week I purchased a new CD made in 2009. This CD was first released in 1994. I have a 1994 copy but which is now a little damaged due to automotive use and planned to replace the old one but first I compaired the two. The new released version sounds like distortion with a beat compaired to the 1994 one.

i have a new released CD version of the wall, which is by all means a 1000 times better than the first issue...

Some of the re mastered CDs are in fact better, other examples are the Dire Straits albums, but most are far worse off, especially when it comes to rock or pop music. The new released versions of Billy Idol CDs are so bad I donated them to our public library, Ill keep the LP versions I purchased back in the 80s although the wear and tear is showing.

Minuscule. Billboard lists 2011 CD sales at 330 million units. Digital album sales were 103 million units. And digital single song sales were about 1.3 billion units.
Hooray! I bought an LP last year. CDs are capable of decent sound, but you have to buy classical music to ensure the signal range is more than 20 db. And MP3 is the cassette tape of the Oh-Oh's. Music for the tonedeaf. No wonder modern products are so bad, residents of LA spend 4 hours a day in their cars and the rest of the time texting on their cell phones. Actually nobody important lives in LA now: they work there and live 70 miles away. I live 1 mile from the courthouse in my little burg.

And for every new album I purchase I probably buy five used ones, or a couple of leftover NOS.. Of course I can probably say the same thing about my CD purchases. (I've not bought any used SACDs so far..)
My turntable is in storage with my LP's.
I will buy a new T/T later this year - I am looking at a Michel Gyrodek or similar, but it depends. After that, I will start to contribute to the increase in LP sales again.
That said, CD's can be quite good IMV - it really depends on the recording. There truly is some crap out there.
