ARTA Sound Card Support

I cratered my previous sound card (ASUS Xonar DG) and am having difficulty in getting another sound card to work.

I picked up an ASUS Xonar SE expecting it to work with lower performance (S/N, etc) however it appears that the input does not function.

The output works fine as viewed from an oscilloscope. However both ARTA shows the fundamental down about 100dB.

Has anyone used the Xonar SE with ARTA and experienced this issue?

I am primarily interested in FFTs.

The linux sound subsystem has directories that contain info about the card's capabilities and current status. These are found under /proc/asound/ and you will find entries both by "cardN" (N=0,1,2...) and by card name e.g. "XonarDG" etc and these will lead to the same place. Look in those folders for a file like "stream0" or the like. Cat the file to see what capabilites are detected under ALSA.

Next you can run the program alsamixer. Press F6 to select the card from a list. Then you can press F4 or F5 (see text at top left hand of screen for what those do) and get the capture or playback controls. See if one for capture is turned all the way down, or muted. Muting is indicated at the bottom of each "slider" if you see either "00" (unmuted) or "MM" (muted). If this does not appear the control cannot be muted. Make sure any capture controls are turned up. Also sometimes there is a control that selects from several possible inputs (e.g. line, mic, etc.), and the input you want to use is not the one selected and thus would appear to be muted.

If none of that works, post again.

I tried the latest driver from the Asus web site, and also the driver that came with the sound card.

I also tried un-installing ARTA and re-installing it after installing the sound card driver.

I have tried 96K and 192K configurations.

Microphone input and Line Input.

It turned out to be a driver issue, which I finally sorted out. I have it workingwithout ASIO, but am unable to get the ASIO dirver to work.

I tried ASIO4All but could not get it to work either. I'll stick to the windows driver.
