Are these heatsinks suitable for Aleph 5?

These look to be brutes, I was thinking of using 4 of the 24" ones on my Aleph 5 project. Any opinions?

I bought 4 of these and they should work fine for an Aleph 5.

Do you guys plan to cut them yourself (& what length?) so that you can mount them with the fins pointing up? Just curious.

those seem huge! what about 6 of the smaller ones? that'd make the case ~18 inches deep. just a thought

I plan to stand mine on end with a couple of 6" heatsinks that I have on each side. That makes the case 14" x 12" x 24.75 high. Looks as if it would be enough heatsink for a pair of 2's in one chassis.

I looked on the AAVID website, and I think I found the part number for those sinks - extrusion profile 61570.

Anyway, if you follow the link below, you can get some fairly accurate thermal resistance numbers. Just type in the length of the sink you will use, and it re-calculates for you.

Thanks! They are 0.28 c/w so 100w gives a 28 degree rise. They are a bit less than I thought but certainly a pair is adequate for any Aleph project.

Well, after scouring the NET looking for heatsinks I am thinking of buying 4 of them and using 3 MOSFETS per sink, this will make a truly towering amplifier but I think the one and only said that "You can never have too much heatsink" or words to that effect.

This will make for a cube of about .07 cubic metre,

Per the Aleph-5 manual, each channel draws 150W. So for
a stereo amp, you will have to dissipate 300W. If you use
two of those sinks, you will be @ 42 degrees C rise over
ambient.

I don't think it will cause any problems, but I wouldn't try
an Aleph with more wattage unless you get more sink.

That's a pretty good price, by the way...

You are right, I was suggesting 2 for each channel to be on the safe side. I think 2 might work for one channel of an Aleph 2.
