Are these DIY planars worth buying? I have to decide within two hours!

At a garage sale, a guy was offering a pair of DIY electrostatic speakers. They're about 4-5' for the panels, and include an unregulated power supply in addition to some output transformers. The asking price was 300$, but I offered 150$; I'm paying a grand total of 225$.

I asked him to set them up so I could listen to them first; he said to come back tomorrow.

Is this a good deal?

Hi,
With so little information , it is very hard to tell. Are the panels made from perforated steel , or many wires ? If perforated steel , are they coated ? Do the panels consist of a few sections ? What brand the output transformers are ? What is the useable frequency range , sensitivity, etc ... ??

You should check if the panels don't arc at higher volumes.

Hi,
These panels are built by Acoustat. They are known for good reliability.
If panels are in good condition and not defective , this might be a good deal.

I was able to hear the speakers today. Although they're a bit directional, the panels sound AMAZING, and on FM radio, too. (Local radio stations around here are lousy.)

He's throwing in an extra pair of Acoustat panels, too. From what I recall, these are worth about 200$ a pair.

Best of all, I think I may only end up paying 75$ for the lot.

I apologize for the lack of detail, but I was in a hurry. He opted to wait and think about it, so I have time to decide.
