To the point, I want to build high power(>100W) F5T. I have alot of IRFP250/9240. I realize they are not true compliments but neither is the 240/9240. Any body see issues with this? Do I have to change anything in the circuit to do this? Thanks for any help.
the last, truest complements of vertical mosfets came from toshiba.
i think they're all NLA now.
many have happily used the pairs you mentioned for years.
they're plentiful, cheap and tough - a good combination for diy
🙂
fairchild has (had?) some similar parts also.
good luck ,

If I have to use currently available devices now for power amp, I would choose Fairchild FQP3N30 / FQP3P20.

Using 3x in parallel will allow you to replace 1x 2SK1530 / 2SJ201.
The Vgs is about 2.5x at 1A bias, but this can be taken into account.
Yfs is comparable.

A suitable conversion board for 3x TO220 to TO247 / TO220.
With integrated source & gate resistors (Beyschlag MELF 0207).

It would be nice to have through hole resistors instead of surface mount only from the point of view of making it more diy friendly and provide flexibility in resistor type and value.
Looks nice though.
OK thanks for the input. I would like to get back to the original question though. Would the Mosfet pairs i mentioned work ok and do I need to change anything else around them to make them work? I have alot of these parts to use up.
Why not design your own ?
Patrick
That is a fair comment. I have access to a pcb milling machine, I'll see what I can do
Pico
You referenced the F5T Circlotron above. Is there a thread out there on that topic? That does look like an interesting version of the F5T.

Mike Rothacher did an F5 circlotron. It's very easy to convert that into an F5T Circlotron.
No plans to make it available. Too busy.
But you can see all the details and copy the idea.

p and n channel's are never compliments as they are two different structures of transistor. The nearest you will get to them being the same is to use a quasi complimentary output.
Having said that I have been designing amps for many years with 240/9240's and never had a problem.
Are there some designs where a phase splitter is used like in PP tube amps and then use same device for push and pull?
Accuphase A75 uses FQA36P15, FQA28N15 output power mosfet, are they really complimentary?
good alternative to 240 9140 ? yfs 20
