Are there any good adapters for xbox360 to a monitor?

What I am wondering is if there is an inexpensive way to convert VGA to the xbox's hdtv cables. (sub $100) I heard that many of these adapters are low resolution and do not show text well. Does anyone know where I can get a good, cheap adapter, so I can play xbox using my monitor (hopefuly HD?)

Thanks!

Has anyone used this adapter? How is it? Does it work for vhs player, dvd player as well as gaming consoles?

Plus, it is not in stock at the company store. Are there any alternatives? (play xbox on monitor without the necessity of a computer, sub $100)

Thanks

Lik-sang sells this thing

which I believe is pretty much the same thing. I haven't read any feedback on it, but it looks as good as the others, for less money.

There's this one, too: http://www.x2vga.com/

Unfortunately, that x2vga ONLY works with your Xbox. The others will, once again, work with ANY device that can output component video at resolutions higher than 480i (in other words, 480p, 720p, and 1080i work). On some monitors, 480i will work, but not most.

To answer your previous question, these will amost certainly NOT work with your vhs player, as it probably doesn't have component outputs (if you don't know what component video is, it uses 3 cables (red, green and blue, usually) for video instead of just 1 cable.) Your DVD player, on the other hand, most likely does have component input if it's fairly recent, as well as progressive scan output.

Unfortunately, since the Xbox can't play DVD's in progressive scan without serious mods, these devices probably won't display DVD's played through your xbox, but they will display almost all of your games in HD. Here's a list of all the HD-enabled games, FIY:

http://www.hdtvarcade.com/xboxlist.htm

All of the games that show either 480p, 720p, or 1080i will work with these devices. The craptacular games that don't show any of those resolutions only display in 480i, and probably won't work (don't worry, though, Catwoman is basically the best of the incompatible games, with the exception of Hitman 🙁 ).

there IS a gamecube VGA Adapter, I forgot who sells it, it was fairly cheap though.

If possible you could buy a VGA Switchbox and plug all your systems into it and viola you're good!

It wouldn't work on the 64, but it would give you the option for 480p on the cube

I'm not sure if a Sony VGA adapter exsists or not, but the 360 and Cube ones certainly do, heres a link to the Gamecube VGA Cable

so nintendo 64 would be out of the question...?

for those transcoders? that I listed, yes, you're right. An N64 will not work. However, a cheap video scaler like this

will work with N64, your VCR, et cetera.

Also, if you were so inclined to buy that for your VCR, N64, SNES, or other non-progressive source, as well as one of those transcoders I listed before for your HD sources (Xbox, some gamecube games, HD receiver), I think you can daisy-chain them together, so that they all run on your monitor's vga input. This should be possible since these devices have VGA passthroughs. You could connect your PC output to the video scaler's VGA passthrough, and your video scaler's output to your transcoder's passthrough, and your transcoder's output to your monitor. That way, you don't have to switch VGA cables every time you wanna use a different source.

Yes. Many people get the Viewsonic N6. It's a do-all adapter, taking in HD component video, as well as standard definition component, composite, svideo, you name it. It's also got a built-in ntsc tuner for standard-def cable. But that costs $200 MSRP.

Also, are you saying that you don't think the picture's gonna look bad, but you think it's just gonna conk out on you after a couple hours of play? Why would it do that? I dunno, but personally I'd be more scared about image quality than that.

Yes, but that thing can't take an HD input. I believe it's got svideo, composite, and a built-in NTSC tuner, but no HD. But other than that, it might work great.

I'd personally go with the N6, even though it's more expensive, as it has HD, a return policy, et cetera. Then again, you're not me, so this might be right for you.
