Hey guys, are there any known back loaded horn designs for the Fostex FF225K wide range driver? From what I've read it sounds like a good choice when paired with a tweeter. I like a few of the descriptions I've seen about it being more relaxed and smooth compared to some drivers.
Are there any of the Spawn family that would play nice with the FF225K?
TIA 🙂

I have always considered the FF225k as a drop in replacement for the FE206e. Given how well it works with FE206eSR, and FE208eS, Sachiko should have sufficient tolerances to easily accomodate it. Scott?

Ooo, that would be nice. I really like the look of the Sachiko. It would be great (I think) to pair the FF225K with the FT17H tweet.
Thanks Dave. It will be interesting to also hear Scott's thought on it too.

Thanks Scott. I'm going to go ahead with this, I'll order components and build cabinets when I'm done with my SSE amp. With the KT-88's I'll have about 8 watts, which should be more than enough power. 🙂

Should be more than sufficient; they've only got 0.3mm Xmax (albeit plenty of Xmech and they overload fairly gracefully), and at ~96dB large quantities of power = not on the cards.

........the good thing is, I really don't listen to tunes at any real volume anyway. Plus I have 1 & 2 watt amps if the SSE is too much.
I really need to get a decent pre some day. 🙄
Scott, I think for the Sach's I'm going to go with cherry veneer over birch ply. They should look pretty sharp. Anything to help with the WAF. 😀
Thanks again.

I think this driver combo will be pretty GREAT! I've thought about building a BIB using the same components. I have the 165k in BIBs and can only imagine the beautiful sound their big brothers will produce. Enjoy the project and keep us posted. I bet you get amazing results!

They work well in BIBs Jeff; I built a rough pair for a friend with 225s a few years back, tuned to 40Hz. He painted them white to blend into the room; still has them AFAIK. V. nice on classical in particular.

Will do Jeff, tho it'll be a little while till I start them. I had decided about a year ago to build another pair of speaks and the decision process has been painful. 😀

I loaded them using Rethm "The 2nd" cabinets and had great results. Superb driver. The "2nd" is more of a TL/hybrid design than a horn though.
