The only case I know of a manufacturer bowing to MI makers was the famous Sylvania 6L6 STR (Special Tube Request) made for Fender, with reinforced, thicker mica spacers, to handle vibration, and meant to be used "upside down".
GE developed the 6550A specifically to go into a "monster" bass guitar amp, by Fender. The screen grids in that variant are incredibly tough. Other, similar, types just can't take the pounding that Fender "box" hands out. The 6550A turned out to be pretty darned good in other applications too. Yet another fine tube rapidly going the way of the Dodo.
