Did you adjust the focus offset and check the laser current when you installed the new mech? If not, you will need to.

Hi, yes I readjusted the values, they were different to the other mech.
No, it's doing the same thing as it did with the other mech.
I've changed the 8808 chip because I had a spare one but made it no difference either.
Should I take a video of it, trying to play?
Thanks.

I set the offset from the value I get whilst it is trying to focus.
I tried the 22k pot in different positions to see what difference it made and if I turn it fully clockwise I at least get the 12" displayed instead of the 8", but still with the error. I don't if this is any help.

I would to thank amc184 for his help. Unfortunately I couldn't get the player to work, I checked every component, replaced the 8808, 8809, TCA0372, electrolytics and the transport but it made no difference.
such is life.

Yeah, I'm out of ideas. If you are going to get rid of it, give me a PM. A couple of parts of the case are a bit rough on my one.
Edit: It could be a stuffed uC or something like that, an unsolvable problem that would just make you chase your tail.

Hello
You said you have put an after market clock in it have you tried putting it back to the original spec without the after market clock to see if it works.

Hi there,
I've a wounded Arcam Alpha Plus at home, skipping all the time.
Lens & laser cleaned, bottom steel ball cleaned and a bit lubed, the same.
Wich test points are the holes for the 50mV? Another adjustment?
That's a funny Philips PCB with a lovely Arcam DAC board 🙂
