Could it have been shorted across the resistor when it was in the car?

Is it me, or in the photos does the filter caps look buldged on some of them?

No it wasent shorted when it was in the car

P1 in the diagram sets the threshold for the comparator. Do as instructed in the diagram.

So I place the black meter probe on amps ground terminal and red probe on the positive side of P2 ?

There is no component designated P2. It's a point in the circuit. It may have been labeled in the Clarion. I don't know if it would have been labeled in your amp.
