I have just moved from Taiwan to that big country just across the water to what will in all likelihood be my last stint in Asia. Everything went nice and smoothly until it came to my two 'scopes. They are not allowed into that country because the authorities have deemed them 'not for personal use'. I can pay import duty and get a special certificate, but then have to hand carry them out within six months or face possible confiscation when I eventually leave. Naturally, they will just go into storage somewhere (not in the big country of course), and when I go back to my home country, I will retrieve them.
I'd just thought I'd share with you my tale of 'arbitrary authoritarianism'
😕

You know how it is. Every regulation is the product of some sort of
negotiation, and so some of them don't make a lot of sense.

Funny thing is on my last visit it seemed like everyone was using the scopes and lab supplies that you can buy on ebay for a song. BTW we got the design in, 10M cell phones with "hi-end" audio.
Welcome to the land of ubiquitous smog. Which particular aggregation of PM2.5s will you be attempting to breathe air from between?😉
The re-location company is negotiating on my behalf. No doubt some palms will be crossed with silver. Worst case I'll have to hit Alibaba. Doubt I can go 2 or 3 years without designing something 😀
Congrats Scott BTW . . . 😉

True! 🙂
I hope you will be able to continue with the audio designing. You write clearly and have very good understanding of how things work. Dont be gone too long or I'll miss you too much.

Well Richard, if they won't let me have my scopes, I'm just going to have to find a second hand one here in China . . .
