In several instances I have sanded about 1/4" on one side of the end of such cables to expose the traces and plug the cable back in. I would be very careful, but it has worked for me each time. Obviously the cable is not as stiff as the blue tab that came off, so reinserting the cable into the socket takes care and wiggling.
i think ill try sanding it. now when i do this should i use a dremal at a light speed. or get some sand paper and do it.

I found the best to be a fine file - I use the one on my Leatherman Wave. I drag the cable across the file while applying light pressure to the cable end. I would recommend trying it by hand - the Dremel may be a bit too agressive.
a bit haha ... if you haven't got a file 1200 grit wet and dry sand paper would surely suffice 🙂
