Nothing very inspired about that design. Imho I have seen far better designs and heard much better sounding designs than this.. 12AX7 would not be my choice and way too much feedback..

Look in back issues of VTV or positive feedback for more interesting line stages, etc.

My last design was based on a 26DHT with permalloy plate to line transformers, not perfection, but for now I am happy with it.

Hi, from the looks of this pic of the inside of the Jadis JP200, I would have to say that there's a strong odor of Mackerel in the air. ie. something's fishy. Am I imagining it or are there 6 tubes where the schematic shows 3. I also have a pic of the power supply and I'm working on getting a photo of what it looks like under the chassis. Any thoughts on this?

There are 3 tubes per channel on both the green and the blue board clone. Both sections of each tube are paralled up. If you take a look at the original Jadis schematic and the "clone" you will notice the clone isn't even close to the original Jadis. Neither one of the "clones" sound even close to the Jadis. I wasted my money on these before I had the correct information. I suggest that if you are interested in the Jadis that you build it with a point to point instead of using this junk from across the sea. If you do a search you can find some very nice schematics for regulated power supplies that Frank has designed.

I went to the trouble of modifying the blue board schematic (cutting traces and wiring point to point). The result was a much better sounding linestage than the original. The green board is stuffed with all parts and tubes and serves as a reminder to me what not to waste my money on.

Good morning,

Actually the pic of the Jadis Preamp is for one channel. The JP200 is a 4 chassis design. So, that would mean that 12 tubes for a stereo pair. Anyway, did you was it a big hassle to do what you needed to do to the blue board? How close did it sound to the Jadis when you were done? Anyway, would you like a copy of the pic of the internal/under chassis wiring if I get it.

Later, Nick

I was refering to the line stage portion of the unit. The extra tubes I believe are for the power supply. The Jadis uses 3 tubes per channel for the line stage according to your information. It uses 1/2 the tube per channel according to Franks schematic that I posted. It would therefore have 1/2 of each tube sitting there acting stupid. The clone uses both sections of each triode and doesn't share the identical schematic as the real Jadis. Have I seen the real Jadis that you posted pictures of? No, I haven't. I have however listened to a unit that copied the real Jadis schematic and has a good regulated supply.

How close did it sound to the Jadis when you were done? How would you discribe sound anyway? What sounds close to one person may sound way off to another.

Anyway, did you was it a big hassle to do what you needed to do to the blue board? Its a pain in the butt to cut the traces after having the sockets soldered to the board. Is it worth it to do it? No, it was a waste of good time. A lot of desoldering if the unit is all ready together. It would be simpler to wire point to point and scrap the PC board idea.

Thank you but no I will pass on your kind offer. I am all Jadised out at this point in time. I consider this unit either in Jadis form or clone Jadis for to be a waste of time and materials.
