As I live in Sheffield I'm not the best person to say where's good to stay. I thought you were asking for advice on where to go out at night! The train from Chesterfield to Sheffield and back will be fairly cheap. That may be my choice, to avoid paying for accommodation in Chesvegas.
Somewhere like the Ibis in the centre of Sheffield (or Chesterfield I believe) will be cheap to stay at. For somewhere nicer, perhaps the Swallow Hotel in Sheffield in Kenwood Park.
I asked my mate who works in Chesterfield about drinking there. I gather it's not bad for a small town, but that's it.
Hope some of this is helpful. Looking forward to it!

I'm just wondering how much of a relaxed, boozy mood the actual event will take on... If it's boozy then people will need to use taxis, trains, etc. back to their accommodation.

Well, the plan is slowly falling into place for me. However, I probably won't be able to bring any kit.

Thanks for the offer John, but Harrogate is miles off the A1/M1, it would take you ages in the detour alone.

We are defo going to book some were in sheffield.
The venue may be on a main bus route of sheffield to chesterfield but either way not to far to travel by taxi or i am sure someone would offer you a lift. We will have a small van other wise we would have had 2 empty seats.

The Beauchief Hotel is OK and it's fairly easy to get on the A61 bypass to pop down to the venue.
Has anybody tried the Chesterfield Hotel? That's not far from the station and maybe 5 minutes taxi away.

From the Beauchief it's about 20mins gentle drive to Chesterfield. Less if you attempt a landspeed record on the "Chesterfield Salt Flats" (a bypass that isn't actually flat).
I'm happy to give anyone a lift on the Sunday, and on the Saturday if I drive. Not sure if I'm training or driving though yet...

Saturday will probably be running formally from about 1-ish to about 6/7pm, then there will be a chance to go out for food/beer or whatever. I haven't arranged anything formal, as numbers are still up in the air, (COME ON GUYS- REGISTER! 🙂 ), but if required I'm sure we could get a group thing going on the day. For those that are happy with pizza/bottles/tinnies, then Shin might be up for persuasion to demo his speakers with a movie, or we could just drink beer and chat. 😉
Sunday will start around 10-ish, with some informal listening, and the talks later on, (so those getting up a little "later" don't miss out).
