The Beta II and polivision IV lens has been used for DIY Crt Projection
it is a massive 6.6 inch diameter, low F1.9 Lens, in other words lets lots of light through.!! the FL is about 320mm.

However the design of the lens was for the curved CRT.

question : Could it be altered/corrected for use with a flat LCD Panel (edge focus) ?
Has anyone tried ?

Hey it seems it would work, and from the PDF it hints at a FOV of 50 degrees with a fl of ~300mm. Looks like a great lens to me. The curvature coorctionj might be a prob as you mentiond, however didn't projection tv setups used a curved screen?
