Does any have any Ideas on how to modify a dvhs deck to record component video ? I have schematic of HM-DH 3000 if anyone needs something to work with. I know 169 time modified the direct tv receivers to do this and I was thinking a component to firewire converter would accomplish this if one exists. Anyone got any ideas?

Does anyone have a schematic for one of the old modified direct tv receivers called 169 time. I might could look at schematic and figure it out from that. They took a VGA output and converted it to firewire. The VGA could be transcoded to component or vice versa. It might get a little tricky but I think it could be done.

The 16:9 Time mod took the demodulated digital video output stream from the demod chip and ran it thru a IEEE1394 firewire encoder chip. NO ANALOG! so it worked VERY WELL, but this was a real issue for Hollywood, since it was NOT HDCP compliant. That is why it's so hard to do. They DON'T want you to be able to do it!
If it was easy, everyone would be circulating copy-protection-free 1st gen quality HD recordings. This doesn't protect their investment very well.

I didn't realize this. i thought they took component out then converted it to firewire. I have fire wire input on cable box the only problem is I haven't liked any of the HBO HD movies in the last 3 months. I can copy other digital channels through S-Video but the quality is not up to DVD when played back on a bigscreen TV. If there were a way to mod the HDM3000 dvhs deck to record through a component input it wouldn't be digitial but mabye it would be a cleaner recording than through the s-video. Would anyone know if this would be possible?
