Did you mean this - the 8561 is a comparator.

Sorry AD8651 CMOS opamp.
Thanks - I'd thought you'd found some hidden levels of linearity in a high speed comparator for a moment 😉
The AD8027 may be a better choice for low V and worth a look, based solely on my read of the data sheet and nothing else. You may need to pay attention to the input stage crossover point though.

It isn't obvious why except for the wider bandwidth. The Frequency response curves looks peaky at hf. Distortion is only 20 dB or so dowm at 20 MHz.
Will try it though. The AD8651 has no problems whatsoever.
😕 😕 😕

I can't see it specified for the 8651 beyond 1k, unless I missed something.
The 8027 is lower noise, particularly at lower f's, has higher open-loop gain (lower o/p Z), and since the reg won't be doing much at 20MHz, the spec lower down is pretty good.
As I sort of implied, none of this means it does sound better, but it has potential that's worth investigating.

As I said, I shall try this.
Issue is: what souinds better in one system may not be good for another.
Another topic. What is your experience in a +ve 0 -ve supply. Tir the grounds at the PS sources, or keep separate until the circuit?

Depends
Ulitmately it doesn't matter much, you just need to decide where your star-ground will be and tie everything to it; whether that's in the PSU, or in the circuit is of less relevance, in my view.
It's simply a question of removing the errors that arise from not doing it properly, something that needs to be analysed on a case-by-case basis.
The usual advice of keeping loop areas as small as practical and controlling current flow is relevant too and this will have a bearing on the way you choose to do it, in a particular application.

1086 Pre-reg - LM or LT ?
Just started digging for the super-regs parts, (Thanks Andy -PCB's here) 🙂
Since I've understood better to replace now the LM317AT with XX1086CT,
I've found (farnell site), National Vs. Linear T. versions very different in price But same speces on paper,
Any change in sound ?
Does replacing LM317 with LM/LT 1086 requier some changes in C_Kelvin Or R2/R3 ?
Thanks,
Avi

Re: Nice to hear
It's good to hear some listening reports back from you guys, anyone else got to the stage where they have them installed yet?
Andy. [/B][/QUOTE]

I have now installed +ve and -ve 12V analog supply aand 5V DF1704 supplies in my homebuilt 2496 DAC. The PCM1704s are still supplied by 5V re3gulators fed from the 12Vs (no space).
Before, the sound was not as good as my modified SACD670 which as depth and space. Now it is superior in terms of speed, focus and as good in the space department.
So, the regulators do have a considerable effect.
ONLY problem is : I now need more boards than the 8 I ordered.
Anyone have spares they can let me have? Ayt least 2 +ve and -ves.

I often feel like a drug pusher, since this addiction is the usual effect 😉
Glad they are doing the business, anyway.
I do have some boards in stock, but I need to check and clear outstanding orders to ensure I have enough, but I may be able to help with some more, if not immediately, then in a few weeks, since I'm likely to order more.
Let me know if no-one else can help you out more quickly.
Andy.

I am not addicted, but I have shown that the 5V bversion works well with a CS5393 ADC previously powered by a LM340-5. The slight digititis has gone and with the proms being recorded thru' it, the Ravel songs tonight sounded very good.

The Nichicon 100/35 ZAs are well over £1 each at Farnell.
I can get 200 at around half that price and will be happy to sell 100 on. Any takers?
The ZAs are truly ultra low esr and Panansonic FCs can't match these inn any sense.

I have just measured 3 configs. on a -5V unit.
AD8651, AD8027 pin 1 floating, AD817 stacked 2 opamps
Measured noise over 1MHz 2.1 uV; 2.0uV; 2.6uV relative values to each other only. I have 0.5uV residual noise on my meter.
If you have lots of spare 817, just used 4 stacked and it is as good as a AD797 on units at higher voltages.
I shall listen to them later.

I'm your Huckleberry!
Hi Fmak,
I'll take up to 100 assuming no one else is interested, less if others want some.

You are welcome; I shall order next week. Please email me with your details as you don't accept emails from diyaudio.

Sorry, I'm joining this thread as a very johnny-come-lately. I was wondering if any of these boards were still available from the folks in the US who were distributing them, or if Andy still has some available?
I'm interested in at least 3 of each positive and negative, possibly more if they're available.
Thanks!

Motherone,
Contact Andy directly for details regarding boards. I just recieved a batch from him. Scroll back to post #349 to find his e-mail button.

Thanks Ed.. I tried to wade through as much of the thread as I could, but didn't catch it. Appreciate the heads up.
I'm working on the boards and I have a problem with the pre-reg.
some boards are right , 2,55v and some have 4v.
Any idea?

Measuring things like the prereg input voltage, ground pin voltage, adj pin voltage and output pin voltage ususally lead to an " aha!" event. If not, you can post these measurements for the resident guru's on this forum.

the problem is with all the positive boards, the negative have the 337 with a Vref. of 1,25 and they are ok, the 317T has a Vref.2,04V
which is why I have 4V on the output.
The 317 datasheet say Vref is 1,25V
