Hey
Hey!
Does anyone have any experience buying from THLaudio.com or Audiocraft.com? (Frank, thanks for your endorsement of THL.)
I almost bought something from THL very recently, but I didn't know them to be reputable and they were overseas. So, at the last minute, I went with someone else. If these are reputable, honest companies, then we're both losers.
Thanks all,
Looney 😕

James & THL are both very small companies, so I think they can not be very consistent in costomer services.
I've bought some good stuff from them, they are basically honest & reliable. I've never got any problems with them.
James makes their products by their own factory. THL sells most of the hi fi stuff which are all imported (a lot of them are from your countries).
Like you guys, I'm only an end customer of these stores. The only difference is that I live in the same country with them, thus far less risk & possible troubles.
Hope this helps and gook luck.

I have recently heard a 300B amplifier with the standard version of the James 6123, it sounded very nice and had no audible deficits of any sort. The transformers are very nicely finished as well.
I used the 6123HS in an E180F-EL84 project and am currently working on a headphone amp coupling the 6115HS to a 6C45-PE. In both cases James look, measure and sound terrific. The owners replied to my e-mail inquiries and were pleasant and helpful to a fault during a heavy production run. Very highly recommended company and product.
hi I have james smallest outputs, beautifully finished, and fairly cheap for the quality.
I have only tried them briefly, but they sounded fine to me, based upon the finish, I would wholeheartedly recommend them.
See also silk transformers, the measurements are astounding. I would like to hear them.

i buy a new pair of 6123 for my WE421 amplifier , sounds very good a little under hashimoto stuff but more than half the price..
i bought them directly on the james website. very good service!

Looks like a resurrection is in progress but I will add my two cents worth. I used OT's by Transcendar in a PP build and couldn't be happier. I had considered the James OT but Transcendar was Made in USA, cheaper, and had excellent recommendations when I googled. Big thumbs up from Sootboots!

I just finished an amplifier using James 6123HS output transformers - very happy with the results (5687 driver, fixed bias, pentode - EL34, KT88, 6550, or 6L6 - output tube). A bit more expensive than Edcor, but multiple secondaries and the potted case makes for a classier look.
Any more updates on James transformers and suppliers?
I'm interested in their SE models, like 6123, and how they compare to Hashimoto and other high end models. I'm presently using LL1620/80mA and wondering what would be a step up in quality.

So many threads on transformers today. Are there really that many people building SET amps?Looks like a resurrection is in progress but I will add my two cents worth. I've had good results with Transcendar SE transformers as well. James transformers are excellent for the price and have a slightly softer sound, similar to Hashimoto and Tamura iron. but at a fraction of the price. My favorite transformer is electra-print st3kb-s. I've never had good results with Edcors and don't understand their popularity. All my auditioning is based on a drd circuit.
I have a number of transformers including the 6123 and a 3.5K Hashimoto. They're very similar. James has a 3.5k single primary transformers (6132?) similar to the 6123. My 40 year old ears can't hear any difference, but I like them all. I've never tried the Lundahls and don't know if you'll get a step up in quality. The Lundahls have a c-core and are quite expensive in the US. It'd be interesting to compare them to an ei core transformer.Any more updates on James transformers and suppliers?

Hashimotos are C core, so if you've got them you've heard a C core...
--edit, just looked up their specs, and it looks like their smaller 7 and 15 watt tx's are EI.

Yup. Thanks for clearing that up. Mine are the universal H-20.Hashimotos are C core, so if you've got them you've heard a C core...

Hi Andy,
I have 6123HS in 300B SET. Sounds very good.
LL1620-PP I used in my ex 300B PP amplifier. I still have them.
Based on this experience, I believe that 6123 will not be a step up in sound quality.

That's SE against PP - not quite the same, but great to hear your experience. Could you tell us a bit about the sound quality of each?
