Anybody had any luck re-tensioning an infinity emit tweeter?

I have done some searching on this situation.. and think the tweeters are kapton film.

They use a stretched kapton / mylar film and over time they relax and develop wrinkles. Infinity does not make replacement diaphragms anymore..

Does anyone have any good ideas to re-tension them? I have tried heat and it made no difference (as I thought it would not).

I know this topic comes up from time to time, and I was curious if any new brilliant ideas have come up!

Thanks - Evan

Arew the wrinkles making noise?

is this simply a visual thing or are the wrinkles making rattleing noises? If there is no noise well you know what to do. If the diaphragms are making noise then you will have to disassemble them and attach the diaphragm to a larger film to re tension them. You can use a simple stretching jig made from a wood frame and a small bicycle inner tube. Tapr the film across the tube and pump up the tube and the skin will stretch tight as the inner tube expands. Then glue the whole thing back together. Kapton does not shrink. I has a cery very narrow range and the material will staet to soften and melt then poof it just turns to carbon. This happens around 800 degrees F.you might be able to damp diaphragm noise with some open cell foam placed in contact with the diaphragm you would have to experiment a little to see if it worked for you. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply.

I would say its a psychological thing HAHA. They are not buzzing or creating any nasty noises. The diaphragm is very small, and it would be near impossible to remove the kapton diaphragm to retension. I actually tried to remove one and tore the very corner about 1/16".. whoops..

My interest is in that the tweeter diapragms and assemblies are no longer available through infinity. I really like the speakers but am afraid over time the tweeters will get too poor to use. I guess at that point Ill try to find used units or just do a retrofit.

Thanks again, I am going to leave well enough alone!
