Any problem with variac supply?

If I have an isolation transformer upstream is there any problem with using a variac as the transformer for an amp? I have an unemployed 50 amper laying around and dont otherwise have the secondary voltages I want.

Sounds good to me, if it "sounds" good to you.

A Variac is a pretty rare piece around my house, though. I'd sooner rewind another transformer core for the voltages I want.

/edit: what voltages *do* you want, anyhow. Ohio isn't that far away...
