Any one using SBA SB23MFCL45-8 as a woofer ?

I'm looking at this woofer to cover up to 500-600hz and i'm not sure if it can play that high ?

Has any one used this more as a woofer rather than a subwoofer ?

I'm hoping to use this woofer in a small sealed three way which will be actively driven.

My only info i've found is a customer review on Madisound ;

Generally I'd describe this sub as a sub-bass capable woofer with a wide usable range and possessing surprising clarity in the mids. I was able to cross it with a horn at 1.2khz (horn has an L-Pad) and the two blend together surprisingly well. It's cheaper than the other woofers (Aurum Cantus/Morel Hybrid Series) I tried and sounds better than them in all ways (subjectively). One especially nice improvement is the lack of cone breakup up to 1.2khz, that and the smooth response dispel any need for a Zobel network to control the top end.

I have the 4 Ohm version; I'll try it "full range" then cross with a simple inductor; I'll get back to you later. My 1st guess is that will probably do quite well; I several different SB drivers any many price ranges and they all seem to out-perform other drivers within their respective price ranges.

Well, that was quick and easy! I forgot my sub-woofer plate amp had a crossover by-pass switch. I used the tape output from my system instead of the usual "sub-woofer" output just to be sure I was getting a full frequency signal. With a test CD, the SB23MFCL45-4 had output up to 4KHz (I didn't go beyond that). In this very quick test; I would say you could easily use this up to 400Hz, probably get away with up to 800Hz. Not a real world test in an ideal set up but the short answer is "go for it". I did listen to some music in this configuration, bassoons, cellos, etc. sounded like they were supposed to; no overly exaggerated peaks or troughs apparent. I you do this; please let me know how it all works out!
