My wife and two daughters enjoy good sound but aren't passionate about it. My wife can readily discern the difference when asked to evaluate changes to one of my systems, but is usually agnostic about which option (the before or the after) she prefers. One of my daughters politely declined when I offered to help her build an integrated amp for her room; she was 14 at the time and the idea of spending 5 or 7 hours with Dad building something to her specifications in the basement was too high a price to pay for a personal stereo. She has since come around and enjoys a jfet BOZ / bridged ACA I built for her a few years ago (her husband, on the other hand, seems completely indifferent to the issue of quality of sound). When she was 13, my younger daughter jumped at the chance to build an integrated amp with her stupid Dad; that stereo is now her primary source of music in her new apartment in Brooklyn.
So while they're supportive and appreciative, none of the women in my family consider themselves audiophiles. I think that's okay -- it's nice having something to do entirely on my own.
Regards.

In my extended family I am known as the audio guru whether it is for good quality recrodings or more likely fixing components that have stopped working. Recently my 83 YO aunt needed me to fix her Sony 200 CD and 400 CD players (remember those?) that stopped working. Easy fix for me...the small player had a stuck CD, the big player's rubber "belts" had completely disintegrated. Found replacement belts, eveything works, I'm a hero. Question: both players manufactured in 2001, both have belts, why did one player's belts evaporate, not the other? Other than me, nobody amongst brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, other family members has any interest. Too bad, I have a lot of stuff.
I'm pretty much in the same boat, used to fix stuff for family members, but no one shares my interest. In recent years it's all phones and home theaters so I no longer get asked to fix stuff. The last thing I fixed was my brother in law's old turntable. Some electrolytic capacitors, new belt, and new stylus. He's happy.
