I just bought a pair of AKAI orthydynamic tweeters out of curiousity. The type number is 4IT-SM3G, and 8 ohms is maked on them. Diameter 40 mm, height 11 mm. It seems they have a ferrite disc magnet at the back (no holes) and another at the front (with 8 holes). The spiral on the aluminium (or plastic with aluminium layer) diaphragm is visible throgh the holes. There is a fine wire mesh at the front. I suppose they should be better than dome tweeters. Has anybody got any information on this speaker? Which AKAI loudspeaker box are they used?
sounds like a planar-magnetic design, Also called regular phase by foster. Relatively common in headphones as well.
Sorry I can't help you with Akai specific stuff.

Yes, I have two (and a half 🙁 ) planar orthodynamic headphones. One of them, the Peerless has a very similar driver, except both the front and rear magnets are perforated.
Sounds like these
These sound like the ribbon tweeters sold by Apex Jr and others. Originally from Technics (or so I believe)

Apparently very good.

Yes, these Akai are the same as the ApexJr ribbon (i assume from the description they are the same as the ones in a small set of Akais that i have -- quite a neat speaker, 4" midwoofer + a PR on the back)
