Alright, I got this Sharp QA-1650 yesterday and I have not been very satisfied with it. My first test for it was to hook up the xbox, which sadly ran in black and white. No idea why. My xbox is hooked up with composite monster cable so I don't know how that could be bad. My DVD's look pretty bad also. I have spent quite some time messing around with the picture settings and I just can't get it to look decent. This is hooked up to S-Video. Colors do not blend well and I can never get the brightness right. It's viewable, but not nearly anything to brag about. Lastly, I hooked up a playstation 2 with composite. This played colors but still didn't look that great. Is there some step that I'm forgetting to do? Or did the guy just rip me off? Any ideas or help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks
P.S. I am refering to the image on the panel when I give these descriptions. My overhead isn't that great so I'm not relying on that to give a picture description.

Mine does a pretty decent job. If you don't have the manual or remote it is a PITA. ( I didn't have either, finally got a remote) The only images I'm satisfied with though are through the S-video and setup is a lot easier. When I use the vga off my laptop it sucks. I haven't tried it as a standalone on a pc.
First thing I would do is to hit the reset and take it back to the defaults. The first time I turned mine on and tried several different connections and settings, it got so jacked I couldn't do anything with it until I reset it.
If your color/tint/contrast settings are screwed up, it can appear black and white....
It does a nice job, but I'm going to go the LCD monitor route when i can. While impressive for what it is, a quicky throw together, I prefer just a bit better performance.

i've been totally pleased with my 1650... I want to do the monitor route too... but that's probably quite a ways down the road for me... my 1650 really does everything I want.
I use my ps2 throught the composite and it plays games great. I was pleased with the DVD playback until I tried a pc with dvd. Now I'm waiting for my new motherboard and processor to show up so I can get DVD through the VGA.
I brought my laptop home from work to try running DVD's through it and I also had trouble getting it to work right, but when I set the laptop to display through the VGA output and not throught it's own LCD at all, It worked fine. I did adjust the phase just a little though. (Not that I knew what I was doing, I was just poking buttons until the picture got better)
I think Lori's right though, you need to mess with your color and contrast etc... And make sure you get one of those big ugly remotes.

You don't need a remote to mess with the settings, using the menu button and the options. If you want to switch from VGA to Composite you select Up arrow.
What? i can't switch mine over to video without the remote without first plugging in the vga to be able to get the menu to display.
How are you getting the menu w/o the remote?
Lori

Lori
You can hook up a composite video connection
Than you hold SELECT AND UP ARROW and it turns to what you have on your video connection and than you can use the menu.

I have a manual regretfully no scanner, anyone know if business depot would scan it for me so I can post?
That would be a great help if you could scan the manual. I could really use a copy of that. I am having some serious video problems with mine. I suppose I can't complain too much seeing as I'm using the composite video input, but I still expected better picture. It's almost as if it's displaying a few hundred colors rather than 16.7 million. If you can get a pdf document of the manual or something, please let me know. Thanks a lot.
