yeah

30 years, actually mine didn't expire that long ago.

the best job I had as a kid was at a summer camp for rich kids in connecticut -- i was a swimming instructor and "ham radio"/ science project counselor. The guy who owned the camp was a ham so we had a Drake TR-4. Wonderful, just wonderful -- the thoughts of all the YL's just boggles this old, dirty mind.

Licence?

Got it 35 years ago. Expired 28 years ago.
Never went below 432MHz in the belief that it was all DC down there 😉
Learned a lot: Transmission lines, cavities (and in my teeth), waveguides - luverly plumbing, RF burns - painful.

I'm afraid I found the technology more interesting than the people :cannotbe: - myself included.

But then there were girls......

I just ran across this thread browsing through the forms.

I guess that I can claim 50 years. I always enjoyed 40 meters cw and wire antennas. I have even worked about 40 countries on 40 meter QRP.

Time spent at such activities could lead to a live of zen.

now wait a *******' minute, no kid today can tell me that they are broke when I used to work at McDonalds and to take the train and 2 buses in order to save enough money to buy 2 watt resistors for my ham radio projects, take apart TV's etc. for the transformers. trade in your food stamps for a ham radio license.<p>
You've got a computer! fer crissakes we had to deliver our punch cards on COBOL and FORTRAN to the data center in order to get a multiple regression analysis done in 24 hours. jees, we communicated data at about 120 baud on surplus frame relay sets from the Ohio Bell Telco.

Sorry i've been out of town and not able to check this thread.

It looks like there are a few of us Hams here thats good. i'm just on 2 meter right now, but looking for a good cheap 40 meter i can get. (hint hint) 😀 Oh well just thinking. If anyone has a good ham radio plan or ideas please reply. well 73 to you all.
