I like the thought of a good sub-woofer, but in my current 70's and 80's amps,
I don't have a sub-woofer output and neither do the three projects (KT88
SE amp, LM1875 chipamp, and a mini-A SS amp) I am planning on doing.
So I might wait until I get another amp that has a sub out for that.
Hi,
That is not an issue, most plate amplifiers have high (speaker) level
inputs. You can use very thin wire as they draw very little current.
The Yamahas being open backed have very restricted bass.
rgds, sreten.
I just recapped a very vintage A 25 and took some measurements. The one's I have contain SS drivers and even the vario-vent is located ABOVE the tweeter. The tweeters on these seem to be old and tired. HF roll off starts at 10 kHz. At least for these, they will present a very soft sound. Great for bookshelf background music.
I installed an 8 uF Sonicap in mine and left the resistors alone. The switch provides 2 dB shifts up and down in the tweeter's output, and, of course, does not extend HF.
