Any final options before dumping Shanling SCD-T200?

I have a Shanling SCD-T200 SACD player bought maybe 15-18 years ago. 5 years ago it developed the dreaded NO DISC problem and my investigation found that the servo board to fix this was not available, even though the laser is still around. It's the same laser/servo as the flagship Sony SCD1, which has the same fault.

My investigations are summarised here: https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/shanling-scd-t200-tube-sacd-player.362298/#post-7153259

Specifications here: https://www.usatubeaudio.com/product/digital/cd-disc-players/shanling-scd-t200/

This player was expensive, heavy and an absolute work of art. Up to now I haven't been able to bring myself to throw it out, but if it is truly unfixable then I'm just about ready to do that.

So this is a last gasp message to wonder whether there are any alternative options.
  • Is it possible to use an alternative servo board and/or CD laser mechanism, for example.
  • Any options to re-purpose the tube line-out and headphone outputs?
  • Any parts worth salvaging, e.g. High precision PGA2311 electronic volume control (100 steps with memory)
  • Anything!!??

Thanks

no I don't think so, I think the current problem is the shortage of components, but the cd is not dead, and then DIY DIY is also dropping, so one + the other...
it must be able to be found in second hand or even unassembled kits remained on the shelf and put on sale.
Keep your CD player, you will find a solution in time.

Quite a while ago I was solving a similar problem with my SCD-1. The player was stuck in TOC reading. At first I thought it was the infamous sled motor. So, I found a source for an equivalent sled motor and ordered a bunch, which I shared with folks on Audio Asylum. But replacing the sled motor didn't fixed it. The problem was the optical pick-up unit. Like in your case, the pick-up was no longer available as spare. But I identified three different Sony DVD players that used the same pick-up, and bought a number of used players as source of pick-ups. Eventually it was fixed using the alignment procedure in the service manual.

Don't discard your player and don't cannibalize it.

@huggygood are you saying that by downgrading it to CD-T100 I might be able to then get an alternative replacement laser and servo? SACD never bothered me, not sure if I even have any! Would that be just replacing the DAC board (then the laser/servo)?

@ManoloMos the UK dealer advised it was either the laser or the servo. I surmised that it was probably the servo based on the reply I had from Parts Connection that their customers had "walked away" (even though the laser is still available) and that seemed to be confirmed by the site I found about the Sony SCD-1. But I could be wrong. I haven't yet taken a £70 punt on a new laser unit.

I'm not an electronics expert - not even sure where the servo is... There's aboard marked "CON" which I'm not sure about.

@sser2 do you recall what the alternative Sony DVD players were? I understand that the Shanling has the same pickup as the Sony SCD-1 - KHM234 AAA..

Thanks to all

I suppose servo pcb is under mechanism. I've searched images in google of servo pcb, and I've found this link:

There is a pcb with a lot of big ICs. If you look, there is a tiny Sony IC. But, without spare parts and technical information, we must be realistic, this is a very hard challenge. Maybe in the future will appear information, who knows. It's a shame for this massive CD player well builted.

Maybe it don't help but, who knows.
1 In the picture titled DAC.jpg, below the LM317T, between the two red capacitors and a diode and a resistor, there is a black stain. Is it a capacitor leakage, a something burned?

2 In this link, there is a fault in four diodes of analog tube zone. It shouldn't affect cd reader servo zone, but who knows.

3 In the servo zone I see the typical BA???? IC by Rohm for to drive the laser coils. Another candidate for a typical failure.
