Gentlefolk of diyAudio,
I've been kicking around an idea for a prototype of a surround A/V receiver for a while.
Is there someone on these forums who has commercial/industry experience with building receivers? Everything from audio decoders (maybe knowledge of Dolby licensing), DACs, and amplifiers on one board?
I'd like to get some advice on how to go about putting a prototype together. Happy to pay a consulting fee 🙂, although ideally I'd find someone who has the bandwidth to stay involved going forward!
Thank you very much!

not sure what your idea is - all on one board? - but folk don't like wires. Please make me a home theatre receiver without amplifiers, just blue tooth outputs.
Visit trade shows in China? There must be a bunch of companies that have designs that could be modified to meet your needs.
Or contact small domestic companies like Outlaw and Emotiva. Personally, I expect many of the DIY audio ilk would be interested in a preamp processor with hdmi rather than an AVR.

FWIW I went exactly the opposite with a recent purchase of an Onkyo TX NR818 - for me the fewer boxes and interconnect cables the better.
By the time you count a digital cable / PVR box, streamer such as Apple TV, BD player, maybe still old school CD player, outboard DAC if you're fancy, power amp(s) for LFE subs, you can still have 6 boxes and associated cabling to / from the AVR - then there's as many channels of speakers for the surround as you might have space for - what's the latest count with Dolby Atmos - up to 12.2 or some such nonsense?
Can't forget the remotes 😱 - there is no single universal remote that can encompass them all, particularly the record programing function and the various layers deep set up menus that from time to time require maintenance - such as when you upgrade speakers and need to recalibrate the Audyssey, or when the CPU in your cable provider's digital box decides to take a vacation. That happened to me with an older Motorola box at least half a dozen times before I gave up and got a newer Arris Gateway set -which so far works like a charm.
No wonder our wives / girlfriends just roll their eyes in bemusement at our antics - well, let's be honest this isn't the only fodder for their entertainment.
