cdm1 mkii replacement /risk or new paradise?
Hi there,
I have a Philips CD880 CD player. I think the laser pickup is getting weak in strength after intensively use for years. I heard that since the cdm-1 mk2 is too hard to get there is a solution to change a brand new head. The solution is to purchase a CDM4/19 laser pickup and dis-assemble the pickup and take only the swing head mechanism and to replace the original cdm-1 mk2's swing head mechnism.
I then bough a CDM4/19, it looks almost the same as the cdm-1 mk2's. The only difference is that there is a 100K ohm resister beneath the laser beam in cdm-1 mk2 while the cdm-4 isn't. Can I just do this? Will this replacement kill/burn the servo system or I can replace but need to change/add some passive components on the servo board?
Need your options to go on...

Does anyone tried to replace a CDM2 with a CDM4 unit?
I have 2 broken cd-players with a CDM2/10 unit, from which the laser pickups are defect.
I'm searching for replacements for them

I understand that the CDM4/31 can be used as a replacement unit for the CDM2.
Does anyone know where I can get one??

I have some new CDM4/31, maybe we can trade for other parts ? Contact me by mail via the admins if you want one.
Hello,
In another thread I atached a doc with Philips CDM's and service nrs. As you can see from that list CDM 2 is not mentioned. It is indeed replaced by a CDM4/xx type. If you order a CDM2 at Philips Service you should automaticaly get the correct CDM4/xx. If you have an old Philips player with a CDM2 in most cases I can find the replacement CDM.
Success!

CDM4-MD as answered in the thread you opened on CD10. If you use a tool called screwdriver you can check if that's correct 😀
CDM4-MD as answered in the thread
the MD confused me.....especially after a nice bottle of barbera d'alba......1990......😉
MD = metal diecast (?)
PS, i meant that it would not be a big difference between a metal CDM4 and CDM9 (although CDM4 lasers are easier to get ?).

Barclay Digital CD-M1
I have a dying Philips CDM2 in a Barclay Digital CD-M1 cd-transport. It is the one cd-transport that is made of both crystal glass and another type of polycarbonated material. Need lots of help since I am new at this. I will create a separate post for this problem that I am having.

Please check/replace the axial 33 uF electrolytic cap located near the transistor that controls the laser output.
I've only experienced this only once but according to another member this occurs very often with CDM2 mechanics

STUDER D732 CD player - CDM4
Hi everybody,
First of all sorry if I misuse the forum at the first time. I come to the forum because I type CDM4 on Google engine research. I have for many years a very good (for me) CD player STUDER D732. Since on month, after about 1 hour operating the sound is distorted. I switch it off for 15 mn and switch on the sound is good for one hour then is distorted again. I opened the player, and see that the player is a Philips CDM4/19.
I am looking for any document on the STUDER D732 or CDM4. Does anybody have an idea about the distorded sound (pick up problem?). Thanks.

CDM2 to whatever replacement
Have a Barclay Digital CDM-1 CD-transport. I bought because of the way it sounds with my audio system. The laser is tired out which happens to be a Philips CDM2 (unknown version). Need and willing to pay to have a replacement or laser replacement. Desperately need help in this matter.

as I know, the CDM-4/31 with integrated servo board - go to the associated image under
https://www.hifi-advice.com/blog/cl...cdm-mechanisms-page-2-cdm-4-cdm-1-mkii-cdm-9/
is the same than CDM-4/11, CDM-4/25 or CDM-4/27 - all without servo board.
According circuit diagram from last pages under
https://www.vintageshifi.com/repert...lufsen-Beogram_CD-7000_Mk2-Service-Manual.pdf
the integrated servo board is according the version "6105", which is to find in the Revox B126 with CDM-4/27 - go to

http://www.hifi-forum.de/viewthread-185-16611.html (first both images)
and in the Micromega SOLO together with CDM-4/25
The Arcam don't show schematic of servo board

According Vasiltech the CDM-4/31 is in use in this models:
ARCAM DELTA 70.2, B&O Beogram CD7000 (manual online in the above mentioned URL), SHERWOOD CDP301R and CDP311R
Maybe one of the member can upload the service manuals from SHERWOOD's CDP301R and CDP311R - thank you.

My estimate wasn't right due a not brushless motor as spindle motor (like CDM-4/19)as I know, the CDM-4/31 with integrated servo board - go to the associated image under

The integrated servo board is a universal version - concerning the equipped parts PCB is both suited for brushed and brushless spindle motor versions.
