Any dealings with turntable basics?

Back on May 2nd I sent my idler wheel to turntable basics for rebuild. I know that it was delivered since I had tracking on the package. Now a month and a half later I have heard nothing after sending two emails a couple of weeks apart.

Has anyone had any dealings with them before? There is another idler wheel repair web site called turntable tuneup that lists the same physical address in St Paul Mn.

Im getting really worried that I sent my wheel into a black hole never to be seen again.

Did you ever hear anything back?
I am very curious.

Turntable Basics is recommended by the folks at russcoturntables.com.
I was just about to send my Russco idler wheel to them and I stumbled across your post, now I am of course not so sure I want send my idler to them.

Im thinking the same. I also posted in the forum at vinylengine....one guy said they are slow in getting back to you. I can understand that to a certain extent, but their website states 4 week turnaround so this is becoming absurd after sending two emails after the 4 week mark and hearing absolutely nothing.

Unfortunately a Google search of "turntablebasics.com complaints" returns a lot of hits. Including BBB, and sites called ripoffreport.com, complaintsboard.com (I've never hear of these). Also returns hits on some of our familiar audio sites.

I'd read up on those to see what their issues were (some are very old) and how they resolved them. Also see if you can look them up on the sites that return basic company info for free (type of business, owner, address, phone number, revenue, # employees).

I'm sorry that you're caught up in all this, hopefully some more knowledgeable than me members here can assist.

Well, today I emailed "Tim" at turntable basics requesting that he return the wheel and refund the money, minus the shipping charges. I included that if I did not recieve the part or communication from him with a viable eta as to when the work would be complete, then I would contact paypal and report a fraud.

This has become really old.

I heard back from Terry and he isn't able to fabricate a new wheel since he doesn't have the specs for the original. I have yet to find a place to get a replacement without buying an entire lp743 though.

I went through paypal and filed a complaint. I did receive my money back and it seems that even paypal was not able to get a reply. I don't know if there was a death in the family or a serious illness. Those would be my two guesses though since if you pay via paypal you can get your cash back so it would be a poor way to run a scam operation.

Anyway, caveat emptor for anyone wishing to deal with turntable basics OR turntable-tuneup.... both of those sites have the same mailing address when you look at their contact page.
