That NOS 192/24 could a great option. Well documented and uses a similar chip (I think). Thanks! Looks you can go full-on kit form too: dddac info page - Audio Creative Shop

I've built one of these with two DAC boards (4 DAC chips). It's a great DAC and there's lots of ways you can customize it. There'e a very long thread (over 8000 posts) here on AK
A NOS 192/24 DAC with the PCM1794 (and WaveIO USB input) - as ZM has already noted. There's also good documentation on Doede's website.
I can't compare it to the Pass D1 but I do have a Soekris DAC and I'd say the 1794 DAC is more "analogue sounding" (in Doede's implementation at least) BUT the Soekris is every bit as pleasant listening. the answer is build both. You can do so for much less than the price of a D1...
Lot's of people can help you. Audio Creative is a good supplier (no affiliation with them).
BTW, I recommend the output transformers instead of the capacitors, albeit more expensive.

If you're up for DIYing a DAC with the NOS/multibit/analog-type sound you could take a look at mine : PhiDAC hex kits with pre-built filters
I haven't heard a D1 so can't comment on how it'd compare.
