Shopping for a couple of transformers for latest build with and noticed something I had not previously. I wanted either 18 x2 200-300 VA. First I looked at 200 VA, and saw two types, an AS version and an AU version. Pretty sure I had AS versions in past. One type, AU stated only one rubber pad, while AS states two rubber pads.
Further confusion when I looked at 300 VA, only AS version listed, one rubber pad. As already stated, normally have AS version with 300 VA, but what up with only one pad? I must be missing something, plenty of pads around here, but I must be missing something. I have ordered scads of these transformers over the years and never noticed all this! I am missing something and I find nothing on their site explaining. Last build I ordered 18 x 2 250 VA Avel Lindberg from Parts express but the pair from Antek would same 40 bucks on the pair.
Thanks for any schooling here!

AS transformers have a shield between wi dings, which aids in reduction in noise from AC mains. AN and AU series do not have the shield. AU series appear to have supplementary windings to provide lower voltage and currents, probably to power auxiliary circuits. Assuming that you do not need to power auxiliary circuits, then you can avoid using the AU series.
I'm used to AN (non shielded) and AS (shielded) series. Had to look up AU series and it looks like they can handle 277V in the primary for industrial applications.
From Antek:
These AU series transformers are specially designed to work on all standard 115V, 230V and 277V at 50Hz or 60Hz. These transformers have heavier gauge wires then the normal requirement to avoid the copper lost during the full power output. The dielectric leakage current test is up to 3500Vac in between primary and secondary coils. This transformer comes with 2 rubber pads, holding disk and center bolt assembly.
Also - regarding rubber pads, I've always gotten 2 pads, bolt/lock washer/nut, and the metal plate with any size or voltage of Antek I've purchased. Is the one pad thing a mistake on their site?

Aha...didn't catch the "and 277" part, explains all except why AS version in 18 x 2- 300VA now only has one pad. Always came with two, I have various ones from dead transformers, so no biggie I guess.

I would guess the one pad in the description is a mistake. Their picture shows two pads. I have always received two pads with my Antek transformer purchases.
Same here. No big deal, last time I ordered transformers one of them was what I was after, 18 + 18 400VA, but it also had a lower voltage set of secondaries in addition No big deal there either, but if there is a way to order the wrong thing I will likely find it!

I asked Antek about the ‘AU’ series several months ago. This was the reply:
“AS series is for audio application with low noise, AN series is general application such as motor power supply, and AU series is industrial application with required UL.”
I’ve always received two pads with trafo orders. Wouldn’t sweat it.

I made a mistake and bought one AN-4218 instead of the AS-4218...To make a pair of monoblock, since I have an AS-4218 already. Did I need to put it aside and bought an AS-4218 ?
I dont think so. For best sleep, I would want mine to match, simply for best sleep. If it bugs you, trade them out for peace of mind. For common sense,
Probably dont need to bother sonically would be my guess.

Never had a noise issue with either type. If I have extra unused windings I usually terminate them with a .1 uF
cap to prevent any static build up or other noise. May be wrong but if never seems to hurt.
