thanks for GM

hello,

sorry for being off topic.
i just want to say thank's and my deepest appreciation to GM for designing ml-tl jx92s 😉
because they're singing in my living room right now. 🙂

back to the topic, when i emailed ted jordan about adding a T for the jx92s, ted says that they just don't need them, and it'll be wasting money.

and for the jx-150, they actually still sells them as an active sub, with mj acoustic as the provider.

hope that helps

cheers

You are welcome! Glad you like them! Which did you build, the short rectangular or long triangular version?

Technically, the JX92S doe not need a tweeter or super tweeter, but its rising on axis response severely limits the 'sweet spot', and why the need for a tweeter if a wider one is desired.

FYI, I designed a JX150 ML-TL that sims aneochoically flat to 30Hz, then found out they were not available anymore. :bawling:

the short rectangular one,

i've taken pic of it, but the file is over 800kb, anyone know how to make them smaller?

sorry being off topic a bit, btw, GM what woofer can u suggest besides jx-150 to match the jx92s? because they're out of my range (about $450 each)

I rarely do any picture posting, so only know how to downsize a jpeg in Explorer, which is to adjust its resolution when saving.

What brands are available in your area of the world, or if ordering from overseas, which charge the least to ship?

thanks GM, here's the pic

i think car audio brand is the most available in jakarta.
RF, Diamond, Hertz, Kicker to name a few. and Hivi Research, because they're manufactured in China.

but pro driver isn't that hard to find in here, especially eminence, rcf and maybe JBL but it's expensive too. that's why i'm interested in sub horn like billfritzmaurice

australia maybe is the nearest shipping to my home.

Greets!

Nice looking pipes!

I'm not familiar with car audio drivers, and the only Hi-Vi Research driver I have info and recommendations on is the M8N: http://www.partsexpress.com/pdf/297-446.pdf and lo n' behold, it appears to be ~ a JX150 clone except it doesn't need as big a box, though as long a pipe, so at least on paper it appears to be an ideal choice.

WRT a BF horn, you're best off just using whatever he recommends.

thanks GM for looking in to it.

in the catalog it says "midbass" so how do i implemented it?

as a bass augmenter like the hornshoppe hornline? or as a sub?

a good candidate? i see 10 db rise in 1-2 khz region

You're welcome!

Well, if the specs are ~accurate it has a 25.8Hz Fb T/S max flat alignment, making it a woofer as good a performer as some marketed as 'subs', and in a pipe will be tuned a bit lower. That said, if you optimize it so that you can't drive it beyond Xmax at its rated power, then yes, it's only good down through the midbass BW. The vent gets unacceptably long though, so aperiodic is preferred if used as only a midbass.

WRT its breakup modes, ideally you're going to be XOing low enough to attenuate these to inaudibility, otherwise you will have to damp them with either a notch filter or an inductor to roll them off in addition to whatever XO you use.

Good to see another of GM's JX92 MLTLs up and running. (Still assembling mine ...) These look really good.

Re the JX92S rising top response, the aim of this is to eliminate the sweet spot; if the axis of each driver crosses well in front of the listener, it should enable you to move from side to side without losing the stable stereo image. It certainly works with the JX53.

BTW, the new sub Ted is offering does not use the JX150 - his bass drivers are currently not available. However the sub has had good reviews (it's an MJ Audio ) and the one Ted offers has been modified to match his drivers. I've heard it matched with a JX53 Linear Array and it does a remarkably good job.

Hi Guy's

Sorry if I'm of topic.
Where can I find GM's cabinet design (drawing)?
I'm almost done with the cabinets according to Ted Jordans specs.
MDF box with maple veneer.

Cheers

GM,

if i want to add the hi-vi bass, which is better? active or passive, considering cost and sonic performances?
btw i'm considering to adding jordan's rec. notch filter to jx92s, as i'm experiencing mid and hi dominant sound.

GeWa,

i'm planning to build jordan's vtl too, as a comparison to GMs.
i hope u can post some results 😉

Colin,

so it wasn't jx150, but the price of the sub is pretty high about 330 pounds.
i hope they producing them again, because in the future i want to build a good 3 way system, and i think they are good candidates for the bass.
btw. do u notice that the jx125 doesn't have spider, and have some kind of dampening in between voice coil and the magnets.
i knew this because a friend of mine is tearing them into pieces
😀

Hi Henry

It seems a bit extreme to tear a Jordan bass unit to pieces when they are about to become so rare! Yes, I know about the odd suspension - they're actually quite unconventional all round, which is why Ted is having problems sourcing components for them. I believe he's still investigating alternatives.

Hi Guy's

First of all I want to wish each and everyone of you a Merry Christmas.

I finished my speakers yesterday. I'm quite happy with the way they look, also my girlfriend likes them very much (what more do you want....). Didn't do a lot of extensive listening yet, but what I can tell so far is that voices are quite lifelike. It's also of importance where you sit, to get the best overall picture of the sound.

Keep you posted.

Cheers

Walter

The recommendation for Ted's layout is toe the speakers in 60 deg this is more severe than most speakers but works
Your photo layout will give a very broad soundstage ~ if you toe them in from 50- 60 you should find voices pinpoint better
& would be better for smaller rooms ~ Off axis listening is also improved Try experimenting with 2 - 2.4 m apart listening position 1m from crossing point
