Hi all,
I thought it’s about time I introduced myself, I’ve actually been floating around here for a while trying to glean as much info as possible, there are some great posts on here and I can see that there are lots of very knowledgeable people with some great opinions/advice. I’m a little humbled by it all, I know very little myself but I am willing to learn. I lost my job (painter& decorator) due to a mysterious illness (Fibromyalgia).I’ve always loved music and been a compulsive up-grader of Hi-Fi but unfortunately I’ve had to sell it all and start again, hence the DIY appeal.
I searched the secondhand market and picked up a Turntable /Amplifier and speakers for a modest outlay. I would love to ultimately build my own equipment.
I choose this forum because I would like to learn as much DIY as possible; I’ve got a lot of time on my hands now due to my circumstance, I’m afraid I’ll probably be asking more questions than giving answers, but I hope to pass on any new found knowledge to someone else who needs it. I actually need some advise about the Sansui amplifier that I’ve got at the moment ,so I’ll look for the appropriate thread soon.
I would love to learn more about electronics, it’s always amazed me how you can create a sound from electricity? I tried a course in technical college but I found it overwhelming/ confusing for me, just to academic. I have a fairly poor concentration span (apparently this is due to my Fibromyalgia) so please could you bear with me if I seem a little slow in understanding something 😉. Anyway, I’m more of a practical person who learns by mistakes ( I know, that’s far from the ideal way).
My other interests are Bird Watching, Bio-Diversity ( I volunteer when I can to do some Audits),Music (can’t live without it ) good food (vegetarian) and good ale. Used to hike a lot but that’s been knocked on the head for now. I also like Sci-Fi films and old slapstick comedies.
I hope I haven’t gone on to long, thanks for bearing with me.
I hope to contribute has much as possible.
All the best
Dean
